A Grade I listed building consisting of a labyrinth of small spaces, including the Churchill War Rooms, needed to be transformed into a 21st Century treasury to become one of the most popular buildings in London.
Meticulously restored to create a dynamic environment: ‘keep the best of the old but with a clear view of the future’. Seven miles of walls were removed, creating much needed light and space. Abandoned light wells were transformed into expansive atriums for communal space.
A 1.2m sqft landmark development. Completed ahead of schedule, the result set a new standard for private/public sector development. The National Audit Office declared the development a financial success. Open, transparent floors immediately introduced new energy and activity to the Treasury.
